Candle Ceremony

A candle lighting ceremony based on a story from Ba’al Shem Tov (the Besh’t, the founder of Hasidism), is described in The New Jewish Wedding by Anita Diamant. There are three candles; two are lit by two honorees. The bride and groom use the lit candles to ignite the third one. “From every human being there rises a light that reaches straight to heaven. And when two souls that are destined for each other find one another, their streams of light flow together and a single brighter light goes forth from their united being.”
